Art inspired and in touch with today's technological evolution is not part of the mainstream interest. From the very beginning, the Liedts-Meesen Foundation has clearly chosen to focus on these little-known forms of artistic expression. This deliberate choice is consistent with the foundation's cross-border objectives.

This award is thus reserved for new technological art. What the word cannot interpret, what the letter cannot express is supplemented by artistic talent, but sustained expression was done through canvas and paint to create a two-dimensional image or by cutting and grinding stone or wood to arrive at three-dimensional objects.In the past, artists had few tools to express their emotions, commitment and values. New forms have emerged: architecture, music, choreography, photography, cinematography, broadcasting, multimedia, .... that have widened the boundaries of artistic expression and removed many limitations of the past.

Today, new sciences such as electronics, telecommunications, biology and genetics are being used and new materials such as steel, glass, art and fluids are being used.

We situate the new technological art in these fields. This presupposes the use of new technologies, processes or materials but only within the framework of an artistic creation that does not neglect aesthetics and artistic expression.

After the announcement, artists will have the opportunity to submit a description of a project from January 5th until May 15th 2024. During July 2024, the selected projects will be announced via the website. These projects will then be realized and integrated into the New Technological Art 2025 exhibition. May the 8th 2025 the jury will decide on the awards.

Jury-nominated projects will be exhibited at various locations on the Zebrastraat site. The competition organizers reserve the right to choose the locations.

At least a week is planned for the construction of the exhibition. Individual arrangements will be made with each artist on how this will be done and what help the Liedts-Meesen Foundation can offer. On the basis of the submitted dossier and in consultation with the artist, the construction will be finalized.

All living artists, regardless of their origin, can submit their candidature for a work that is less than two years old at the time of registration but may have been exhibited. Each artist can submit only one piece. The competition has an international character and English will be used as the working language. Entries can only be made online via the entry form on this website. The entry cannot be forwarded if not all mandatory fields are filled in.

Expenses related to transport, accommodation and technical realisation will be reimbursed by the Liedts-Meesen Foundation. No fee or per diem will be provided.

The theme for the 2025 edition is 'Intelligence is Automatic'. Works submitted should be fitting within this broad theme.

For the NTAa'25 exhibition, an international jury will choose minimum 20 works that will be effectively exhibited. The same jury will decide the location at Zebrastraat for the different works. The main criterion for this is the degree of conformity with the objective and content of the competition.

Works that cannot be presented for security reasons or dimensions (number of m² or m³ needed) will be refused. Limitations at this level can only be assessed by the jury or the relevant site managers.

At the end of the exhibition the public and the jury will award one work. Throughout the duration of the exhibition, every visitor with an entrance ticket will be able to cast a vote in favor of one work. The highest number of votes will determine the audience award.

A cash prize is envisaged by the Liedts-Meesen Foundation. This indivisible prize of €7,500 will be linked to one work and its creator. In addition to this prize, the jury has the right to honor an artist with an honorable mention. In addition to the jury prize, there is also a public prize of €7,500 attached to the competition.

Each participant grants the Liedts-Meesen Foundation the reproduction rights of his/her/them work selected for the competition. The participating artists and their work will be featured in a catalogue dedicated to this edition of NTAa.

All disputes related to this organization, for which these competition rules are not conclusive, will be decided by the jury and/or the Liedts-Meesen Foundation.
