IVY 2.0

IVY 2.0 (2016) by Tom Dekyvere

About the artwork

With the structure IVY 2.0 the artist shows yet another example of how life and its natural environment can be manipulated into a new form. The installation refers to the balance between electronics and nature, or to how automated forms and platforms can mimic our natural environment and biological behavior. The digitization of these elements can yield a more artificial result, a product adapted to the new world. The robotic plant is looking for its way along the facades of the Zebra Street. The digital creeper shines through its skin made from discarded computer circuit boards.

"These last few years, Tom Dekyvere (° 1985) has been busy exploring the deeper layers of the reality and the human spirit. Like the alchemists in old times, he has been probing for unexpected connections, in search of the borders and overlaps between nature and technology, between man and robot, between dead and living material. His growing oeuvre is constantly changing and evolving. As a young, internationally known artist whose artworks combine a strong visual appearance with contemporary time-based content, he exhibits worldwide in public spaces, museums and cultural initiatives such as Zebrastraat." - Frank Despriet
