About the artwork

The marble sculptures of Bernard Verhaeghe impress above all by their technical perfection. His knowledge of the material and how to use it allows him to shape out of the formless block, the model he wishes to create. His love for marble dates from the very beginning of his career and originated from the restraint with which he manages to transform raw material into elegant forms: slight shudder of folds, knots, interlacing, draperies, organic structures finely opened, all promising to reveal a hidden mystery which the artist handles with sublime skill.

His maturing inspiration and vision, but also technique, combined with his loyalty and his predilection for the marble, make him rank between the finest sculptors of his generation, who, following his example, have heard the call of Carrara and have responded to it.
