Le Zebrastraat veut promouvoir la culture d’une façon originale en favorisant les tendances artistiques nouvelles et les thèmes inhabituels et offrir des chances aux jeunes artistes prometteurs.
Le Zebrastraat veut lui-même organiser des projets, spécialement dans le domaine de l’art digital et interactif. Une première initiative dans ce sens fut l’exposition "Pixels", début 2005 "Stipels" qui attira plus de 3000 visiteurs, suivi de “Update : l’origine“ en avril 2006.
Chaque année une exposition est consacrée à un artiste régional établi.
Les espaces sont également mis à la disposition des écoles des beaux arts gantoises pour l’exposition des travaux de fin d’études.
L’espace d’exposition de 750 m² sur deux étages, les énormes caves voutées pour les vidéastes et le chapiteau amovible du parvis central hébergeront ces projets ambitieux.
“L’artiste du mois“ est également une initiative de la plateforme artistique. Chaque mois un artiste prometteur expose une sélection de ses œuvres dans les salles de rencontre et de réception, persuadé ainsi de confronter ses travaux à un public nombreux et divers hors du circuit commerciales et des contraintes de ses galeries.

Cultuur beleven
De Zebrastraat wil mensen cultuur laten beleven en laat daarbij de platgetreden paden links liggen. We bieden liever een forum aan veelbelovende jonge kunstenaars, ongewone thema's en nieuwe kunststromingen.
De eigen projecten van de Zebrastraat concentreren zich vooral op experimentele digitale en interactieve kunst. Een eerste initiatief in die richting was de tentoonstelling Stippels en Pixels. Sinds 2006 organiseert De Zebrastraat de biënnale ‘Update’ voor interactieve en digitale kunst. Sinds 2008 is er de New Technological Art Award Stichting Liedts-Meesen aan verbonden.
Elke zomer is er een overzichtstentoonstelling van een gevestigde Oost-Vlaamse kunstenaar of vereniging. Zo brachten we reeds werk van hyperrealist Henri Vandermoere, Pjeroo Roobjee, de Vlaamse Quiltersgilde en Hans Vandekerckhove. In 2010 mochten we de kunstenaar Michel Buylen verwelkomen.
Voor al deze ambitieuze projecten beschikt de Zebrastraat over een moderne tentoonstellingsruimte met een totale oppervlakte van 750 m², gespreid over twee verdiepingen. Voor videokunst kan worden uitgeweken naar ruime kelders en voor de allergrootste installaties stelt De Zebrastraat graag de op maat gebouwde tent op het middenplein ter beschikking. In de maand juni worden de expositieruimtes ingenomen door eindejaarstentoonstellingen van het Gentse kunstonderwijs.
De Expo van de Maand is eveneens een initiatief van het kunstplatform Beleven, al vindt dit in principe in de ontmoetingsruimte plaats. Elke maand stelt een veelbelovende kunstenaar er een selectie van zijn of haar werk tentoon. Hij of zij is daarmee zeker van een ruim en divers publiek, al zal de ontmoetingsruimte nooit dienst doen als commerciële galerie.
Ten slotte biedt de Zebrastraat zijn faciliteiten en zalen aan voor allerlei culturele initiatieven zoals lezingen, concerten, etc. Deze vinden plaats tijdens Zebrapointuren (donderdag van 18 tot 1u en zaterdag en zondag van 14 tot 18u)

Live to See Culture
The Zebrastraat wants people to experience culture and therefore leaves current paths on the left. We rather offer a forum of promising young artists, unusual themes and new art movements.
The projects of the Zebrastraat itself focus most of all on experimental digital and interactive art. The first initiative in that direction was the exhibition “Stippels en Pixels”. Since 2006 the Zebrastraat organizes a biennial for interactive and digital art, “Update”, in 2008 with a presentation of the collection of the ZKM (Center for Art and Media, Karlsruhe) and a Contest New Media by the Foundation Liedts-Meesen.
Each summer there is a retrospective exhibition of an East Flemish artist. In this manner we already brought work from the hyperrealist Henri Vandermoere, from Pjeroo Roobjee and in 2008 we had the Flemish Quilter Corporation as a guest. In 2009 we welcome the painter Hans Vandekerckhove.
Finally the Zebrastraat puts her exhibition space at the disposal of graduation projects from students who received a master of arts degree in Ghent.
For all these ambitious projects the Zebrastraat has a modern exhibition space available with a total surface of 750 m², divided into two floors. There is also the possibility for video artists to use the spacious basements. For the most extensive installations the Zebrastraat puts a large tent made to order onto the inner court.
The “exhibition of the month” is also an initiative of the art platform Live to see Culture, although it takes place in the meeting space. Each month a promising artist shows there a selection of his or her work. He or she is guaranteed a broad and diverse public, though the meeting space will never be considered a commercial gallery.
